Food

The traditional Cuban cuisine, or "comida criolla" is the mixture of different cultures. The main influences are Spanish, African, Chinese and to a lesser extent American Indians. Typical dishes include white rice, black beans, (or a combination of these is the conger), the tostones (plantain chips wheels) yucca and pork produced in different ways. It is also highly consumed tamales, corn ground pork, boiled in the maize leaf. Another very pleasing dish for lovers of soups Ajiaco is a combination of vegetables with pork and spices. Besides the usual plants, grown in Cuba several tubers of African origin as cassava, sweet potato and malanga.

The best food will generally be found in your casa particular or in paladares (locally owned restaurants in private homes). Some casas particulares offer breakfast and/ or meals at small prices. Meals cost usually between 8-15 CUC. Ask your landlord about his favorite paladar.
